PART ONE: DRAWING UP A WISHLIST
The containers you use in your garden should mirror the design style you have chosen and you don't neccessarily need to plant every one. Sometimes an empty container makes for a great design statement. Grouping containers of different sizes and shapes together is also really effective.
The odd sculpture in a garden can look good - but use them sparingly for the best effect. Use them as a focal point point if you want to draw the eye to a particular point in the garden.
By encouraging birds to visit your garden, you not only derive pleasure from watching them but you also recruit an army of pest control officers. Birds will keep down numbers of aphids, slugs, snails and other pests. This will save you having to resort to chemical warfare.
You can buy miniature bridges already made up which you simply place in your garden. Put them over streams or dry river beds for best effect.
You either love these or hate them. If you do choose to have wind chimes, consider splashing out a bit on the more expensive musical chimes which have a softer sound and are less irritating to neighbours.
